Are You A Teacher?

Marcus Buckingham's International Best Seller on the topic of Women's Happiness.
Are you happy at your work currently?
Have you thought of switching career to become a Teacher?
Can anyone tell you for sure if this move could be right?

To be frank, I wouldn't be able to tell you.
But I think, Marcus Buckingham might be able to give you a better insight via his International Best Seller, Find Your Strongest Life - What The Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently.

Below is a snippet of what Marcus says about Teacher as a Life Role:

How do you tell if you are born to be a Teacher?
1. You never give up on anybody when it comes to learning.
2. You take time to learn something for yourself so you could help others learn.
3. You gather and collect Facts, Experiences, Objects that could be useful to a particular person's growth.
4. You design and track learning progress.
5. You feel excited when someone you care to teach progressed even that little bit under your influence.

So, are you born to be a Teacher?

Check out some of the best teachers in town and see what they do differently.
I shall post a separate blog on Some of The Best Teachers some time later. Please do share some of your greatest or most inspiring teachers should you want them to be featured for sharing.

How to Attract, Focus & Retain The Most Talented Teachers?

Is there a fool-proof formula to attract, focus on and retain the best teachers?
PS: Please DO NOT take the literal meaning of breaking all the rules in order to be an exceptionally good manager. You may want to skim through the book before you jump into the "face-value" conclusion. It meant to say there's no one best method to deal with all talents, which is contrary to most Management Books.
With reference to The Gallup Organization's research in 1999, through First, Break All The Rules, written by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman; below are the 12 key questions you should ask yourself to identify if your company is doing a good job in attracting, focusing and retaining the most talented employees.

1. Do I know what is expected of me at work?
2. Do I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right?
3. At work, do I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day?
4. In the last 7 days, have I received recognition or praise for doing good work?
5. Does my supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about me as a person?
6. Is there someone at work who encourages my development?
7. At work, do my opinions seem to count?
8. Does the mission/ purpose of my company make me feel my job is important?
9. Are my co-workers committed to doing quality work?
10. Do I have a best friend at work?
11. In the last 6 months, has someone at work talked to me about my progress?
12. This last year, have I had opportunities at work to learn and grow?

Above 12 questions are the simplest and most accurate way to measure the strength of a workplace.
All the above 12 questions are copied to share from an inspiring Talent Handbook First, Break All The Rules, written by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman, page 28.
